Playing International

  1. Enter a game name and two to eight player names on the start screen and click on the "Start Game" button.
  2. Additional players will see the game name on their start screen. They should enter their own name and click on the "Join Game" button. Refresh the start screen if needed to see the desired game name.
  3. There can be several games active at a time, but each person can only be playing in one game per computer.
  4. The player entered as "Your Name" when starting a game will go first for the first round.
  5. Use the mouse to click on either the stock pile or the discard pile to draw a card. A selection symbol (*) will appear on this card.
  6. Use the left and right arrow keys to move the card with the * symbol to the desired position.
  7. Click on any of the cards in a hand to select that card for moving.
  8. To go down, either: 1) use the mouse to drag a card in a hand to the desired pile drop box; or, 2) click on a card in a hand, which will cause the * symbol to appear, then click on the desired pile drop box.
  9. Click on any of the cards in a pile to select that card for moving when needed.
  10. When going down, runs should sorted so that the lowest card is the left-most card.
  11. To move cards back to a hand from a pile, either: 1) use the mouse to drag a card in a pile to the hand drop box; or, 2) click on a card in a pile, which will cause the * symbol to appear, then click on the hand drop box. Moving cards back to a hand would be done if a player has started to go down and then realizes they cannot before they discard.
  12. A player can rearrange cards only when it is their turn.
  13. To discard, use the mouse to drag a card to the discard pile. This signals the end of a turn.
  14. After a player discards, an Undo button will be available until the next player draws a card, in case the person realizes they would like to change their discard. Also, any player can press the Undo button if they notice that a player has been discarded.
  15. The score box has a card count to help track when players go down without having to scroll down to see all the other piles.
  16. Once a player goes out, all cards will be face up and the score automatically computed.
  17. Fifteen seconds after a player goes out, they will have a button to start the next round. They will also go first in the new round.
  18. Although the computer tries to enforce the rules, it is still helpful that players do not take actions that are against the rules. For example, if someone discards a player that is not caught by the computer, and the Undo button is not used to let the person take back the card, no other player should pick up or buy that card.
  19. There is one major exception to the rules in this computer version that applies to buying: when the Buy button is visible, the first person that clicks on it will get the buy, not the next person in line.
  20. An alert bell will be sounded for the current player when it is their turn if the ] key is pressed. Pressing the [ key will turn the alert off.
  21. Although the computer should refresh all players screens after every turn, pressing the backslash key (\) will trigger a refresh if needed.

Rules For International

  1. Use a standard deck of playing cards, including the two Jokers.
  2. For two or three players, use three decks; for four to six players, use four decks; for seven or eight players, use five decks.
  3. A game consists of seven rounds:
  1. Two sets
  2. One set and one run
  3. Two runs
  4. Three sets
  5. Two sets and one run
  6. One set and two runs
  7. Three runs
  1. A set is three or more of the same card (any suit); a run is four or more cards in order, from the same suit; Aces can be used before a Two or after a King in a run; runs cannot loop around from King to Ace to Two; Jokers are wild cards and can be used in sets and runs, but there must be at least as many non-wild cards as wild cards in each set or run when first going down.
  2. A player cannot have more than the required number of sets and/or runs in each round.
  3. The object of the game is to have the lowest score after seven rounds.
  4. Eleven cards are dealt to each player at the beginning of each round; one card is turned up to start the discard pile, the remaining cards are placed face down.
  5. Play goes clockwise; the player to the left of the dealer goes first.
  6. During each turn, a player first draws one card from the top of the face down cards or from the top of the discard pile; at the end of each turn, the player must discard one card or "go down" or "go out".
  7. A player must "buy" the very first card in the discard pile at the beginning of each round if they want that card; it cannot be picked up like cards discarded by other players.
  8. Once a player has the required number of sets and/or runs, they may place these face up on the table during their turn; a player may chose to wait one or more turns before placing their sets and/or runs down, in an effort to catch other players with points in their hand, but this can backfire if another player goes out first.
  9. After a player "goes down" (places their sets and/or runs face up on the table), they may place cards in their hand that fit onto other player's sets or runs during their turn.
  10. Players cannot discard any card that can be played on any set or run showing on the table; these cards are called "players". There are two exceptions to this rule: 1) if a player can show that they have two cards that are the same (value and suit) and this card will play on a run showing on the table, they may discard one of the two identical cards even though it is a "player", and no one else can pick up this card or buy it; 2) if a player cannot discard because they are building the same sets as are already showing on the table such that all of their cards are "players" and they cannot go down, they must "buy" the most recent discarded card; however, if they have already bought twice, they cannot "buy" again; in this case, they can discard a "player" and no one else can pick it up or "buy" it.
  11. A player may "buy" a discarded card by picking up that card and two more from the top of the stock pile; players may buy at any time after a turn is completed and before the next player starts their turn, and can even buy on their own turn (in this case, they will pick up the top discarded card and three cards from the stcok pile).
  12. Players may buy only twice per round.
  13. If two or more players want to buy the same card, priority goes to the next person in playing order.
  14. A round ends when a player goes out completely; when going out, all cards must be played and not discarded; the remaining players add up the points in their hand.
  15. Points:
